DocuShare won’t start and error points to SQL

Issue

The following error is displayed in the <dshome>\logs\Monitor.log:

15 Apr 2016 11:37:33 [main] INFO - MonitorServerImpl.callStartOnServers: starting service Database_JDBC

15 Apr 2016 11:37:49 [main] ERROR - MonitorServerImpl.callStartOnServer: caught RemoteException exception calling Database_JDBC

15 Apr 2016 11:37:49 [main] ERROR - MonitorServerImpl.callStartOnServer: RemoteException exception java.rmi.UnmarshalException: Error unmarshaling return; nested exception is:

java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException

15 Apr 2016 11:37:49 [main] ERROR - failed to start up the system correctly

Note: This can occur whether using SQLServer or SQLExpress.

Reason / Possible Cause

The SQL Browser Service is disabled.

Solution

Check to make sure that the SQL Browser Service is enabled and Started. DocuShare requires the SQL Browser service to be running in order to connect.
